The CDX Plywood
The CDX plywood means CDX grade plywood. The core of this CDX plywood can be poplar, hardwood, pine or birch.
This CDX plywood can be on the face or the back CD grade birch plywood or pine plywood or hardwood plywood.
What is the meaning of CDX?
This CDX grade comes from the US voluntary hardwood plywood standard PS1-95 for construction and industrial plywood established by APA – Engineered Wood Association.
This “CDX” is not the name of a hardwood plywood grade. This CDX stands for “C-D Exposure 1 hardwood plywood” . This C-D means that one side of the plywood is rated “C” grade and the other side is rated “D” grade.
The letter “X” means the outer adhesive of plywood.
Is CDX plywood exterior plywood?
This CDX plywood is not exterior plywood. It’s exposure plywood. Because the core veneers for CDX plywood are not as good as exterior plywood. CDX plywood is moisture resistant but cannot be exposed to water or weather for long.
This CDX plywood is a kind of economical plywood. Usually, CDX plywood is sanded but not polished. The face/back of CDX plywood is flat. Some small knots are allowed in the face/back.

As construction and industrial plywood, CDX plywood is commonly used as floor materials, wall sheets, roofing, etc.
